During the last hurricane season in Bermuda, a lightning strike destroyed the server that stored every important email and accounting functionality in terms of buy orders for Calypso. It also served as an unexpected stroke of good fortune for them.
While we repaired the old server and waited for a new one to arrive from Dell, we jumped on the opportunity to introduce cloud computing and the idea of mobility to their retail operation. Not familiar with the cloud, Jim Kirk convinced Calypso to chose Microsoft Office 365 for the company's cloud-based business email (Microsoft Exchange Online). While Calypso has opted to just use email on the cloud, Office 365's full capability is to unite familiar Microsoft Office applications with the power of Microsoft Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, and Lync Online. “The transition to Microsoft Office 365 would not have been so smooth without the training and support of its IT service provider, Bermuda Microsystems,” says Pierre Dutoya, Calypso's CEO.
“Office 365 kick started our adoption of twenty-first century IT,” says Pierre. “I’ve introduced my colleagues to laptops, mobile devices, and smartphones. I’d estimate that we are at least 25 percent more productive when working inside and outside of the office.”
